Non-surgical Treatment of Periodontal Disease:
Non-surgical (Scaling and Root Planning) is the treatment modality in which the excretion (calculus and bacterial build ups) build up on and around the roots of the teeth are mechanically removed using an ultrasonic, as well as periodontal hand instrument. The inflammation on the lining of the soft tissue pockets are also carefully removed, creating a clean environment for healing. Local anesthetic is often administered to ensure patient’s comfort during the treatment process.
Anti-microbial agents may be introduced at the end of this treatment procedure, or during subsequent visits, to promote better soft tissue healing. Depending on the extent of the healing after this procedure, further surgical interventions may be needed.
